If at first you don't succeed, stain, stain again!

When it came to the kitchen, we started off with unfinished oak everything - cabinets, panels, crown molding, kickboards, etc.
I originally picked out a mahogany gel stain. The gel kept it from dripping, but I just couldn't get it as dark as I wanted it. So I went back to Lowes and picked up the Bombay Mahogany, which is much darker. I loved it!

Final Mix:

1 coat gel stain MinWax Mahogany
2 coats MinWax stain/polyurethane mix Bombay Mahogany
1 coat MinWax clear satin polyurethane

You end up with a nice dark colored wood with red undertones.I'm really happy with how they turned out!

  1. Bombay Mahogany is the same stain I used on our dining room set! Yay for good taste. :)

  3. I like it! Dark mahogany trim and crown moldings seem to be gaining popularity. Too many people want to paint everything white.

  4. I think I'd like to try the Bombay mahogany. It doesn't look to have quite as much red undertone as regular mahogany. Your cabinets look very nice.
