History 101: Ye Olde House

And now for something completely different... ACTUAL discussion of the house! Shocking...

YAY! HISTORY! I'll try to keep it to a minimum for the non-historically inclined... ;)

My house is approximately 120 years old. That is about 5.5 times older than me!! Hang in there little house! We'll give you the respect you deserve. The house was built circa 1890. I hope to do some library and county record research to determine who built it and exactly when they built it. I'll see if my little researching fingers can turn anything up.
I've been trying to pin down the house style. It is very common for the area. It is very country farm house with a little Greek Revival thrown in via the the columns. Although, Greek Revival is more pre-Civil War. *shrug*

The house has no front yard. Why is that?

In 1890, our little town of Muggy was especially little and had only one main road. The road was smaller and didn't really have much in the way of sidewalks. So there was a little more room in front of the house at one time, but not much. The road was actually one of the main highways in the area before the Interstate System came into being under Eisenhower. The road in the early 1900s:But most of the property lots tend to be long and skinny, stretching out behind the houses. Also, the house looks kind of tiny from the front, until you get a good look at the side of it:And now for the moment you have all been waiting for... (drum roll) a walk through of the main house with Professor Indiana Jones--err... I mean the Professor... Oh, and don't mind the Finnish folk singers. They mean you no harm.

  1. Bring on the history! I love historical facts about places that are actually pertinent to my life! (yeah, yeah, Jamestown is pertinent... blah blah blah) ;)
