We are going to be living in a small town. That means borrowing cups of sugar. Waving to everyone who either walks or drives by. Making small talk with passersby, whether or not you wish to. Putting up with crazy neighbors (but that's a post for another time). Being able to walk or ride my bike everywhere within the town limits in less than 10 minutes.
I especially like that last part.
But in addition to crazy neighbors, we also have neighbors-who-could-be-potential-friends. Neighbors who live in this pretty, well-maintained house right next to ours:
Our close-to-the-same-age-as-us neighbors with the pretty house just got married about 3 weeks ago. They are around our age. I left them a congratulations note in the mailbox when they got back from their honeymoon. The next day, I found this note taped to our door.
I liked it so much that I have decided my new mission in life is to make friends with the neighbors. As soon as we are moved in, I think I'll invite them over for dinner.
Should I show up on their doorstep with a plateful of cookies and ask to borrow a cup of sugar?
I read a study recently that said that people are happiest in their home if they have a friend in their neighborhood. :)
